Like all my work, I am slow and steady like the turtle, but I always persevere and eventually come to a conclusion. I love this piece and did not realize when I first sketched and began painting that this figure was me. She rests against the backdrop of the black and white checker board, stuck in black and white thinking, further trapped in this amber goo pouring from a reptilian moon, cracked open and dropping the material earthly realm straight on our protagonists mind. If you are familiar with David Icke the reference should be fairly clear. While the image can evoke horror as the main character’s flesh is completely pulled back leaving her exposed and bare with her guts spilling out, there is still a bright side. If you take a closer inspection at her center spinal column you will notice the ascending chakra colors leading to her third opening. For even in our greatest darkness and state of mind control, all one has to do to regain power is wake up, become aware of their bindings, and take action. That is how you escape the Matrix.

Created this piece for my cousin who is the Golden Dragon in the Chinese Zodiac. The Komodo Dragon is a fierce and powerful reptile, and here in this piece symbolically represents an overly inflated ego. But when one becomes aware to the profound divinity of our greater world surrounding us, that ego is infected and begins a death cycle. This piece has a special pace in my heart, and as the years move forward the meaning and complexity of this work morphs and shifts like a kaleidoscope.
